On 17th & 18th of December 2004, MHRM Department of IISWBM held a seminar on Human Resources on the theme "HR in the Global Business World" at the HSBC Hall, Tollygunge Club, Kolkata. Dr. Pratap C Chander inaugurated the event. On this occasion, Chief Guest Mr. Russi Mody delivered a practical lecture on Management of Labour in an Industrial setup and released "Maanav" the research journal of the department.

Every week the students get a chance to meet a renowned person from the Industry who speak on various subjects mostly related to the field of expertise. They share there rich experience with the students and give them knowledge on current HR issues.
Industry Visits
Every batch of MHRM gets an opportunity to visit an Industrial establishment to get a hands on experience about the industrial environment and effect of various forces on it.
Recent visits by our students are:
Industrial visit to BOC India Ltd. The first year students of MHRM went on an industrial visit to BOC India Ltd. on 12th February,2005.The company established in 1935 is an ISO-9001-2000 certified company.It is a paet of the BOC group.The office of the global operations of this company is in the UK while its corporate head office in India is in Kolkata on Taratala Road.Mr.Roy Joseph is chief of HR operations for India.It has 3 factories in Eastern India-in Kolkata on Diamond Harbour Road,in Asansol and in Kona.The entire company is managed through IMSS i.e. intra net interface while accounts and data entries are done with the help of SAP.The Kolkata factory deals with two gases-nitrous oxide and dissolved acetylene.The employee strength in this factory is 36.The factory has a single union controlled by CITU and has a good relation with the management.All the workers in the factory are skilled and each and every worker is given a good training.The workers are given right to point out defects in the factory.Also the workers are under continuous evaluation process through on job tests.But what is most important about the company is that safety, health and environment of the workers inside the factory are given utmost priority.
Tractors India Limited on 15th Jan.2005. It is situated on B.T. Highway near Agorpara. This company produces Cranes, Rocket Missile Launcher etc. Main costumers are ISRO, IAF, NTPC (Rihand) ERS, Trans India, K Port etc. Products are mainly exported to Sri Lanka and Oman. Main foreign collaborations are with Groove (USA), LUNA (Spain), Boch(U.K.), Little Bull(Australia). Steel is imported from Sweden. About 450 labours work here. Among them 30 are on contract basis. Minimum qualification for labours is ITI pass. Labours are provided HRA, Medi claim policy etc. Monthly medical check up and pension scheme are also available for them. Performance Appraisal is done once in a year.
First Year students visited METRO DAIRY on 9th Oct. 2004 situated at Barasat. Its only industry having totally funded by World Bank. The main objective of Metro dairy is to provide good milk in affordable price. It started in 1995 and now having 164 employees. Its daily production of milk is 3 lakh liters and that of ice cream is 10000 liters.
Final Year students visited Eveready Industries factory at Kashipur. The company has been going restructuring in the recent past and the students where able to acquire knowledge on the same. The factory is the first among several others located throughout India. It was started over half a century back, and carries a legacy of itself.
Industry Meets
The Institute is regularly visited by various Industry Stalwarts and Dignitaries who share there experience with the students. Recent visits include that of Gen. S R Choudary, Mr. Subir Raha of ONGC.
